Equal Protection From The Law...
By Kathleen Ross
Black Lives Matter. Equal protection from the law signifies that every person does not view the legal system as protective. The killing of Michael Brown happened not far from where I lived. It impacted so many people in the community where I live, work, and serve. The pain of that experience reverberated through everybody who was affected, especially the children. In many cases, the uneasy or hostile relationship between law enforcement and the black community is narrated by one side: law enforcement. For those of us who care, challenging inequality in policing and the criminal justice system is critical for a better society. Acknowledging inequality and racism is the first step towards changing it.
